Metro has a plan to make it easier to get around LA, which includes less congestion with projects like the I-605 Corridor Improvement Project.

Overview

Metro and Caltrans are evaluating four alternatives to improving I-605, including adding HOV and ExpressLanes from I-105 to I-10. The project aims to enhance mobility and safety, minimize residential displacements, promote multi-passenger trips, and improve pedestrian and transit safety. Feedback will shape the final environmental document.

Status

The Project will include improvements along I-105, I-5, SR-60, and I-10. It will evaluate Transportation System Management/Transportation Demand Management (TSM/TDM) strategies, Complete Street improvements, transit enhancements, and improvements to promote walking, biking, equestrian, and transit access in communities adjacent to the I-605 Corridor.

The I-605 Corridor Improvements Project is revising the document to incorporate the feedback received before the scheduled release of the Draft Environmental Document in 2020.

The reimagined I-605 Corridor Improvement Project will focus on developing improvements that:

Minimize freeway design footprint to avoid full residential displacements
Provide multimodal, safety, and mobility benefits that increase the movement of people
Incentivize multi-passenger trips and zero-emission vehicle utilization using Express Lanes or high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes
Provide Complete Streets improvements for pedestrian-safe access
Integrate street and ramp intersection elements
Incorporate transit enhancements such as bus shelters

Metro hosted five in-person and one virtual community meetings to share updated project objectives, refined alternatives, and proposed processes for moving forward with the surrounding community and stakeholders. Information gleaned from these community meetings will be used to inform the Metro Board and to request moving forward with the environmental process.
