I-405 from Wilmington Av to Main St Improvements Project
Overview

The project aims to improve traffic mobility and safety along I-405 between Wilmington Ave and Main St in Carson. It will enhance vehicle operations, pedestrian, and bicyclist access. Three alternatives are being considered by the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and Environmental Assessment (EA) include one no-build option and two build alternatives, featuring auxiliary lanes, Complete Streets, and traffic management strategies. Status
The Project Study Report/Project Development Support document was completed in 2020, in collaboration with Caltrans, Metro and South Bay Cities Council of Governments, and the City of Carson. The Environmental Document was initiated in September 2024, the Draft Environmental Document in early 2026 and the phase concluding in 2027.
The scoping period for the EIR/EA is complete. All comments received by Monday, October 21, 2024 will be shared with the project team and considered in the Draft EIR/EA.

In September and October 2024, Metro held scoping meetings focusing on introducing the project to the South Bay community and asking for feedback on the proposed improvements.
