Overview
Location: San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley
Phase: Design & Engineering
Type: Better Transit
Forecasted Opening: 2028
The North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project will provide high-quality transit that connects North Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale, Eagle Rock and Pasadena. Zero-emission electric buses will run in dedicated lanes, offering faster, more reliable service while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. By creating a better east-west transit option, the BRT will connect communities to jobs, education and essential services across the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. Metro completed environmental review in 2022 and is now advancing final design. Utility surveys are expected to begin during summer 2025, followed by construction. The project supports Metro’s goals for sustainability, equity and increased transit access.
With this project, Metro is planning Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which is faster and more reliable than regular bus service. BRT will help take cars off the road and serve neighborhoods that need public transit services the most in San Fernando and San Gabriel Valley, while improving air quality using electric zero-emission vehicles.

Status
Metro began studying various routes for this project in 2018 and concluded the final state of environmental review in 2022. A Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) was released in Fall 2020 for public review and comment. Refinements were made to the project and the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) was certified and the project was approved by the Metro Board of Directors on April 28, 2022.
The project is now in the preliminary design stage before it enters the start of final design and construction. Metro intends to utilize a Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) project delive
ry method.
Utility survey work may begin as early as Summer 2025.
